Questo film horror è stato classificato v.m. 14 in Italia.Negli Stati Uniti non è stato accolto bene dalla critica e dal pubblico, ma è stato un successo commerciale.
David Goyer ha inviato la sceneggiatura ai produttori Form e Fuller, che l'hanno trovata ottima e hanno chiamato Goyer (che ha lavorato a Batman begins, Il cavaliere oscuro e alla serie Blade) alla direzione.
Sebbene il thriller fosse originariamente ambientato a Portland, The Unborn è
stato poi spostato a Chicago (grazie anche agli sgravi fiscali applicati dallo Stato dell'Illinois), con le prime riprese effettuate presso il Barat College (un vecchio college abbandonato) nel sobborgo di Lake Forest.
Dybbuk: sostantivo. Un demone, o l'anima di una persona deceduta, che si insidia nel corpo di una persona viva e ne assume il controllo del comportamento, e può essere esorcizzata solo tramite una cerimonia religiosa.
